How to Brush Your Teeth — Tips From a Dentist

Brushing your teeth correctly and receiving a regular dental cleaning is necessary for achieving that goal.

How to Brush Your Teeth

#1 – Start with a new toothbrush.

Too many people brush with an old and bacteria-ridden toothbrush. You need to use one that is no older than three months. If the bristles begin to fray, smell, or look stained, you should replace your brush right away.

#2 – Use a soft toothbrush.

A hard toothbrush can actually damage your teeth by eroding them.

#3 – Move toward the center.

The goal is to move plaque away from the gums. To do this, you need to begin at the gum line and brush in a circular pattern toward the center of your mouth. This way, plaque can be brushed away and out of your mouth.

#4 – Brush for two minutes.

You should brush for at least two minutes and potentially longer if your teeth still do not feel clean.

#5 – Use a fluoride toothpaste.
